Publix 101

Recently Publix came out with corporate and local store policies.  If you are in another area, you can print this info and use it as a guide to ask your Publix the correct questions. Every store takes different competitor coupons.

1. Remember if you have a question it is always a good idea to ask customer service.
2. Local policies as of 5/15 (subject to change).
3. Each Publix store coupon policy may vary based on local manager’s discretion.
4. Subject to change.

HOW TO GET THE BEST DEALS AT PUBLIX:

1. BEST DEALS ARE B1G1s or sale items: You do not have to buy 2 of the B1G1 items to get the sale price.
Items ring up 1/2 and 1/2 (Fairhope, Daphne, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach).
Example–Chips are $2.00 on sale B1G1. So first bag will ring up $1, and second bag will ring up $1. I could just buy 1 bag and they still would be $1.
Publix stores in Florida are different. B1G1s ring up full price and $0–so you must buy 2 items.

2. COMPETITOR COUPONS: Publix in Fairhope, Gulf Shores & Orange Beach accept competitor coupons. Read fine print on competitor coupons for restriction, as Publix will follow those same restrictions.

UPDATING NOW…

MAGNOLIA PLACE DAPHNE

Bruno’s, Winn Dixie, Dollar General, Target, Rite Aid, Save A Lot

THE SHOPPES AT FAIRHOPE VILLAGE

Target, Winn Dixie and Bruno’s

COLONIAL AT CRAFT FARMS GULF SHORES

Bruno’s, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Rite Aid, Target, Winn Dixie

SHOPPES AT PALM POINT, ORANGE BEACH

Bruno’s, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Target, Winn Dixie

In another location, check out this list!

Publix does NOT accept department store, Food Lion, GNC, etc…If we do not have the grocery/drugstore in our area they will not accept those coupons.

Remember, always read fine print on a coupon. If it is one of each coupon per transaction then those may be the rules that you have to follow at Publix as well.

3. STACKING: You can use ONE STORE (Publix/competitor coupons are both STORE Coupons) and ONE manufacturer coupon per ONE item. So, a max of TWO coupons(one manufacturer and one store coupon) per item. This is called stacking.

4. NO DOUBLING COUPONS: Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Daphne & Fairhope Publix locations do NOT double manufacturer coupons. Some Publix stores do double coupons that are .50¢ or less.

5. DRUGSTORE COMPETITOR COUPONS:  These coupons must be actual cents or dollars off of a product. No price matching “coupon”. You can read more here.
Now this may be helpful if you happen to receive a $5/30 or even a $10/50 at an accepted drugstore.

Walgreen’s Rebate Rewards, which are manufacturer coupons printed at the register are also accepted in Daphne. You can use these to pay in Daphne.

6. USING $/$ OFF COUPONS: (Spend $30, Get $5 off). Allowed to use two $/$$ (one Publix and one competitor) at all of our local Publix stores as long as your order total qualifies before other coupons.  Hand this coupon to the cashier first and then your other coupons.

7. FINDING PUBLIX COUPONS: Publix coupon booklets are usually located in the front of the store, in displays or at the customer service counter. These include Advantage Buy flyers(Yellow and Green), Grape magazine, Family Style, etc…Register online at publix.com for their many Clubs & Programs(more coupons in the booklets you receive at home).

8. RAINCHECKS: If Publix is out of an item ask for a rain check at the customer service counter. Expires in 30 days.

9. QUANTITY LIMITS: 5 B1G1 deals or 10 total items in Daphne.  This is to prevent shelf clearing.

10. MOBILE COUPONS: Do NOT accept cellphone coupons.

11. NO MILITARY COUPONS

I have a quick question about military coupons. Do you know or have you used military coupons at the Fairhope store. There are sites that list the military matchups but I do not know if all publix will accept them.

Thanks

Heather

The Fairhope store does not accept military coupons. However, some locations in FL may since they have a base close by.

3 Kari March 28, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Do you know the coupon policy for the Publix stores in Pensacola?

4 Dee Dee March 30, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Do you shop Food World? They have double coupons to $.50. I wanted to know any experiences there since I’m new to the area. Thansk,
Dee Dee

5 Shannon March 30, 2010 at 1:38 pm

No, I do better shopping Publix where they accept competitor coupons.

6 Lindsay April 8, 2010 at 10:52 am

When you say you can only have 8 total items for B1G1 deals, is that for one item in particular or is that the total # of deals you can have on a receipt for all B1G1 deals?

7 Shannon April 8, 2010 at 11:18 am

8 items for each b1g1 item–so 8 yogurts, 8 boxes of cereal, etc…

8 jacque April 30, 2010 at 10:17 pm

I tried using my Dollar General q’s at the Publix in Fairhope and a manager said that they didn’t take them and said that they only took Family Dollar. I’m so confused. I’m sure that I’ve used them there before. Has their policy changed?

9 Alison May 17, 2010 at 2:50 pm

I have a question about the B1G1 at Publix. Can you use two manufacter coupons? 1 for each?

10 Shannon May 17, 2010 at 3:12 pm

yes, if you are buying 2 items

11 Kim June 10, 2010 at 4:28 pm

What about Winn Dixie? Do you ever shop there? They always have B1G1. Is it worth the drive across the bay to shop at Publix?

12 Shannon June 10, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Publix takes competitor coupons…Drugstores, grocery stores and Target. If I need just an item or two I go to WD.

13 Maria June 15, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Just wanted to say that I have actually stacked 3 coupons at a time at the F’hope Publix. I have used a Publix, Competitor store AND Manufacturer coupon on 1 item. I have done this more than once and it has never been questioned.

14 Shannon June 15, 2010 at 1:55 pm

Yep, and that’s against the rules too. Next time why don’t you stop by the customer service counter and ask for the manager Debbie. It should not matter if the cashier accepted it…It’s against the rules.

15 Brooke July 2, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Is the foley store policy the same as orange beach?

16 Jessica July 8, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Have you heard anything about coupon policy changes in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach? They were accepting $/$$ publix q’s plus a drugstore $/$$ like Riteaid, but I’ve heard they are not doing this anymore.

17 Shannon July 8, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I have heard it. One per person per day.

18 Jennifer Nickles July 22, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Can I stack a dollar general q and mq, at Publix?

19 Shannon July 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Depends on whether your store accepts Dollar General coupons. Ask customer service. If then do, then yes you could stack.

20 Kristina July 24, 2010 at 7:50 am

Just wanted to let everyone know that Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have changed their $/$$ off policy. They will now only accept on coupon, no longer will they do a competitor and a Publix $/$$ off. I was in there yesterday and was told by management that this is the cooperate policy. Although I was in the Gulf Shores one earlier this week and they took both, was told that it is now policy for only one to be used.

21 Kristina July 24, 2010 at 7:52 am

Sorry meant corporate policy.

22 Carla September 1, 2010 at 8:22 pm

I was in the G.S. store today and was also told they will only take a Publix or Competitor coupon for $/$$. New policy.

23 Publix Cashier September 15, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Hey, just letting you know that Publix doesn’t accept Family Dollar coupons. I actually had to turn down 3 customers today who specifically said that this site told them that we do accept them. Thanks.

24 Shannon September 16, 2010 at 6:44 am

The Fairhope Publix store does accept Family Dollar and Dollar General per management. Which store do you work at Publix cashier?

25 Charlie October 7, 2010 at 10:42 pm

Recently the Publix in Gulf Shores and possibly the other stores have decided to start taking military manufacturer coupons as well as coupons from the commissary. Also, GS ***IS*** taking Family Dollar coupons, however they do NOT take DOLLAR GENERAL coupons.

26 Carla October 15, 2010 at 7:59 pm

The Publix in Perdido Key does not take Rite Aid coupons. I found that out today:(

27 dana October 21, 2010 at 11:26 am

Hey Shannon,
Just wanted to check before I went to printing…
Publix Fairhope has went back to accepting Rite Aid Video Value Q’s??? As you see I have definitely been on hiatus..haha

28 Shannon October 23, 2010 at 7:40 am

no….the are no longer taking them again….

29 Ina October 27, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Does the Fairhope Publix take expired publix coupons?

30 Shannon October 28, 2010 at 10:51 am

No.

31 sheri October 30, 2010 at 7:18 am

When you say one Walgreens Register Rewards allowed per visit, does it matter what AMOUNT it is (or are you saying one dollar value ).

32 Shannon October 30, 2010 at 8:25 am

One RR total. Does not matter the value of the RR…you can only use one at checkout.

33 Lu November 22, 2010 at 1:43 am

Question..I have an MFR coupon that says $2 off when you buy 3 of any combination of Lipton tea, Wish Bone dressing, or Secret Recipes. For these kind of coupons, can I also use .60 cents off MFR coupons on two of the three items I’m buying? Or would the $2 off 3 items be counted overall, almost as if 1 MFR was used per item? Thanks!!! :)

34 Miranda N. November 24, 2010 at 5:30 pm

I tried to use a Family Dollar Q at the Fairhope in Publix and they told me that they DO NOT take Family Dollar Q because they don’t have a Family Dollar within 5 miles but they will take Dollar General Q. Is anyone else being told differently?

35 Shannon November 24, 2010 at 7:40 pm

This is true….

36 Miranda N. November 27, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Also, does the Publix in F’hope take $/$$ Qs from CVS and/or Rite-Aid?

37 Leah A. November 29, 2010 at 5:17 pm

Hi Shannon!

Took your class back spring of last year and as you know there have been a few changes with Publix policies. First question: As of today’s date, what is the Fairhope policy for accepting Register Rewards? Second question: Any idea what the coupon policies will be for Daphne location opening in Dec.? Lastly, any idea when us loyal customers here in Mobile will ever see the first Publix open here?

38 Amy T. December 10, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Any news on the coupon policy for the Publix opening in Daphne?

39 Miranda N. January 23, 2011 at 9:41 am

Will the stores allow you to do 2 transactions & use a $/$$ coupon for each transaction? I shop for my mom & I at Publix while she takes care of my baby for me because he is TERRIBLE when it comes to grocery shopping, LOL!

40 Shannon January 26, 2011 at 7:48 am

Usually no…but if I was you I would ask a customer service manager.

41 Amanda February 16, 2011 at 10:40 pm

I see there is a $5.00 off $25.00 coupon from Dollar General that you posted. Are you saying I can just go and get that coupon on Saturday @ Dollar General and then use it at Publix????
Just beginning with all this!!!!

42 Althea Kingsmill February 18, 2011 at 12:34 pm

QUESTION…TROUBLE STACKING AT PUBLIX TODAY! PLEASE CLARIFY FOR ME…
Publix said they could only take one Target coupon for an item “per transaction”… meaning if I purchased two Wish Bone dressings and I tried to stack both with mfr + target… they would not allow me to use two target coupons, I would have to stack with two different competitor coupons. The target coupon does state only one coupon per transaction… I take “transaction” to mean I can’t use two publix coupons on (1) Wishbone dressing, but if I purchase two, I can use one on each of them. I have not had problems doing this in the past… please clarify the policy rules.

43 LS March 4, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Does anyone know if Publix in Daphne or Fairhope accept Lowes coupons as a competitor? Even though the ones I have state they are manufacturer’s coupon, they do not have a manufacturer’s bardcode.

44 Shannon March 4, 2011 at 5:34 pm

Yes.

45 Shannon March 4, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Those coupons are considered Lowe’s store coupons bc of the barcode.

46 charity April 4, 2011 at 6:56 am

I have a question. If you have two of the same items and two coupons to go with the item (one for each) can you use the coupons or are you allow one coupon in a grocy store. AND if you are buying an item that has a coupon on it and it does not say instant and you have a coupon for that item does the cashier have the right to take the coupon off the item.

Please comment on this subject

47 Rhonda June 3, 2011 at 6:57 pm

Shannon, I have a question about #6– using $/$$ off. It says you can use one Publix and one competitor as long as the order qualifies. I know how these work, but do they consider the order qualifying as adding the $/$$ together. For instance, i have a $5/30 Publix and a $5/25 Dollar General. Would my order have to total $55. or just $30. ??
