My Publix Savings 4/5

by Shannon on April 5, 2010

Nice quiet trip to Publix today. It’s hard to believe that I have been shopping Publix this way for over one year now.  Sure couponing takes some time–but learning to coupon has been time well spent!  It has truly changed my life…and my expectations of grocery stores.

The Publix employees in Fairhope are top notch.   Many of our favorites are being moved around the company. I am happy to know that we will have a direct contact with the new Gulf Shores store too. The buggy might just be pulling up there for the Grand Opening!

So, today’s trip was relaxing…small and easy.  I am really trying to focus on buying more whole foods–sticking to the perimeter of the store. Have you ever noticed that those items are on the “outside” of the store–produce, meats, dairy, etc…That’s where the bulk of your foods should come from. Does that mean that I will not buy a package of cookies here and there? No. It means that I will not buy just a buggy full of packaged stuff. Everything in moderation as my aunt taught me.

So here’s a PEEK IN THE BUGGY

Order total:$13.95
Sales Tax: $2.41
Grand Total: $16.36
Savings: $47.91

WHAT’S IN THE BUGGY?
1 pack of extra lean ground beef
1 dozen eggs
2 packs of strawberries
1 bag of spinach
1 package of squash
1 cup of Greek yogurt
2 4 pk. Fiber One yogurt
2 cans of Pam spray
2 bottles of Mott’s apple juice
2 boxes of General Mills cereal
2 bottles of Ken’s Marinade
2 packs of Immaculate cookie dough
1 Betty Crocker brownie mix
1/2 loaf of Publix sour dough bread

What’s for dinner? Right now we are eating mostly a lean protein from the freezer and vegetables(fresh and frozen). Our grains are whole wheat pasta, rice or Nature’s Own Sandwich Rounds.  I tend to get hooked on things like the Nature’s Own…I have been using them as buns for turkey and chicken burgers.
